Korean Food

I watch Korean dramas and the food they eat always looks so good!  Well, I found this cute little spot in Temple City called Big Rice and was so excited to try!  The decor was simple and clean they also had Kpop playing on the wall from a projector.  How cool is that!

Their banchan (side dishes) includes bean sprouts, pickled seaweed, cucumber kimchi, and regular kimchi.  The bean sprouts were so refreshing when it was cold but other than that it was just ok.  My favorites are the other 3 side dishes.  I love cucumber kimchi and this was amazing with nice size slices too.  The kimchi was a winner for me! I’m pretty picky with my kimchi, I’ve had some store bought ones and it just wasn’t that great some seemed too sweet.  This one was nice and crunchy with a slight spice to it.  The pickled seaweed was great can’t complain there.

We ordered the Bulgogi beef rice bowl my boyfriend isn’t that experience with Korean flavors so I knew he would love this.  It was great the seasoning of the beef was on point.

Next, we ordered cheese spicy rice cake with ramyun.  It was good the rice cake was soft and chewy just perfect.  At first, the spice wasn’t bad I thought it was fine but gradually it does build up and the sniffles start happening.  But I still liked it.  Maybe ordering this on its own to share would be enough.  We had lots of leftovers, it really didn’t look like we did any damage.
The last thing we ordered was the sweet and sour pork.  From watching 2 days 1 night the guys always were so obsessed with sweet and sour pork.  So, I thought I would give it a try.  Well it did taste good the sauce was amazing but I think the pork slices were just a little thin.  The sauce overpowered the taste of any pork.  A little disappointing but 2 out 3 isn't bad

I wouldn't mind going again unless I find something similar closer to home.  There were other things I definitely wanted to try.

AirSoft Con 2016

This past weekend my boyfriend and I went to airsoft con in Alhambra.  We didn’t know what to expect as it was our first time.  Parking was on the side streets, it can be quite a walk so comfortable shoes is a must!  There were about 25 vendors most gave away patches, and a couple had bags and apparels if you like, follow, favorited, or tagged them.  It didn’t seem that crowded which was a good thing.  They had a costume contest and gave away lots of prizes during the raffle.  To get into the main store it depends on the number of your wristband, they call by sections so that it doesn’t get overcrowded inside.

My boyfriend bought the box of awesomeness and a couple other things.  If you do buy the BOA you get an airsoft sack of con-ness and a t-shirt by showing your receipt.  So that was cool.  We didn’t stay until the end it was getting really hot.  I wouldn’t mind going again it was fun to see what each vendor had.  The only bonus items we got in the airsoft sack was 2 multi-functional survival paracord watch with integrated fire starter and whistle.

Here are the things we got.

The bonus watches at the top of the picture

Shirts only run to XL

Heading to Tennessee

This is my first time in Tennessee, I’ve never flown anywhere towards the East coast.  I also haven’t flown anywhere in years the last time I was on a plane was in 2010 going to Hawaii. So you can say I was a little bit nervous.  The flight wasn’t that bad, I was busy recording and or staring out the window at everything.  I was just amazed seeing all the mountains and lands that stretch for miles without buildings. It was about a 4-hour flight but since I was so occupied staring out the window, it seemed like it was only 30 minutes.  My brother, on the other hand, suffered in the middle seat.

I was expecting it to be hot I checked the weather before we boarded the plane and it said middle 90’s all week. BUT! I did not expect it to be so humid and sticky.  It was like a punch in the face the moment we stepped out of the airport doors to wait for my grandma and uncle to pick us up.

Once we got in the car and started to head to my uncle house, he mentioned that his kids, his wife, and he are getting over their cold and the kids won't be able to be around us for a while.  So that was fine I spent time with my grandma.  Tennessee is beautiful I loved driving around town with my grandma.

My uncle has a boxer named Kahlua, I’ve only had small dogs and was always a little scared of big dogs just because they are stronger and heavier.  But after spending lots of time with Kahlua, I fell in love with him.  He is just so cute and a big baby.  He isn’t properly trained so I can never get on his level or sit next to him, he’ll try to take me down.  NOT in an aggressive way he just wants to play.  I don’t think he realizes his size.

I wish I could just take him home with me, he is just the sweetest.  I honestly felt safe with him being around.  The room I stayed in was right in front of where he sleeps when he is bored or wants to check up on me he always comes and pushes the door opens looks at me and leave.  I thought that was just adorable.

By the middle of the week, everyone that was sick was starting to get better except they still had the coughs.  I know my aunt and uncle wants to take us out and do things together but honestly, I know they were not over the sickness.  The kids were coughing all over the place and we’re all stuck in one car, it was not going to end up well.  We ended up going to the Nashville Zoo which was nice, it was small.  You can pet a kangaroo! I did, it was so soft! Not what I expected.

So towards the weekend my brother, grandma and I got sick. It was pretty bad.  I was taking Nyquil all day and night sleeping pretty much all day for 2 days.  I ended up getting a sinus infection and took Sudafed for it.  We ended up cutting the trip short.  We bought a one-way ticket so that we could stay as long as we want but only ended up staying for 2 weeks. Kind of sucks but it was just bad timing.  Plus it thunderstorm pretty much at least once a day if not all day with crazy winds.  A house down the street actually caught on fire! The neighbors said it could have been caused by the lighting and I could believe that.

A couple of days before our flight back home even though we were still sick.  We attempted to go to downtown Nashville, and the opry mill and Opryland hotel for souvenirs. It was nice downtown so lively although I couldn’t enjoy it much since I was sick.

I felt bad for leaving early, but I just needed to get home and get better.  I ended up being sick for 1 week and a half.  The plane ride home though lets me tell you, I got really bad motion sickness.  I couldn’t do anything! Couldn't look out the window or at my phone I just had to sit there and try not to throw up.  I must say though the flight attendants going to Tennessee were much nicer and attentive, they made the trip comfortable than the flight attendants going back to California, who knows maybe all of them were having a bad day and were over it. But I definitely had a better time flying out of California.

I will post all the pictures of souvenirs and of my trip in another post because this post is already too long and I still need or organize the pictures.

Thanks for reading!

Fruits

I love fruits!  Except for papaya I've only just started to like it.  I never liked the smell of over ripped papaya and the taste just didn't suit me.  But lately, I've been liking it only when the papaya is super red and soft on the inside, it tastes the sweetest to me.

Ripped Papaya
Jack Fruit; I also love eating Jackfruit it's so sweet but sometimes sticky.

Tiny Mangos!
I found these tiny mangos in my parents' backyard isn't it cute! I didn't think they were ready being so small but after peeling one it was just as sweet as the big ones.

Frozen grapes; Love to eat frozen grapes during the summer especially during those hot days and it's super sweet.

Night Market 2016

Finally got to go to the night market this summer and I am glad we went to the last OC night market instead of the ones during the summer when it was super hot!  The weather was perfect it was sunny but cool with a nice breeze.  We didn’t get to try that many things because we got full quick but we still had fun.

The things we tried.

Takoyaki; It is good I love the original but have you guys tried the fried ones from sushi restaurants?! Bomb!

Cookie milk shot; they have other cookies and different kinds of milk to fill up the shot

Chicken Katsu sandwich, it was ok the chicken was good but I was not a fan of their curry.

Potato balls it was good can't go wrong with potato balls

Giant fried squid it was so good the batter tasted amazing with nice size pieces of squid

$20 for 3 light bulb drink.  Of course you are pretty much paying for the light bulb but still, that is a little bit ridicules especially when there isn't much drink in it. I’m sure he rounded up instead of the exact price unless they charged tax and or their price was $6.66. Not all places charge tax only certain vendors.

Boyfriend got this I was full and didn't want to try it wasn't feeling like having eel.

We also got meat sticks from a Korean vendor which I forgot to take a picture of.  But honestly it wasn't that great the beef was cut into huge chunks which made it hard to bite off the stick and chew.  Way too tough.  The pork was all fatty I did not enjoy it.  The last night market is this past memorial weekend in the 626 area.  I haven't been to the original 626 night market yet but would love to try and go next summer.  It's a fun experience trying different foods although it can get a little expensive.

Lipstick

I just bought some lip product to try.  My cousin told me about this and she says it works well, so I thought I would give it a shot.  The brand name is Oops My Lip Tint by Berrisom, it comes individually or you can buy a set that comes in 6 different colors; Bubble Pink, Pure Pink, Vivid Scarlet, Sexy Red, Lovely Peach, and Virgin Red for $22 on the website right now https://us.memebox.com/

But I got it on amazon for like 2-4 dollars cheaper.  There are a couple other lip tint colors that are not included in the pack

I also got a Lip tint cleanser to help take off the lip tint. I’m sure there are other cleansers that can take off lip tints but since I was already trying out this brand why not.  The other 2 things I got I couldn’t help myself it just looked so pretty I had to try out the colors.  I got I’m Lip Crayon in matte by I’m Meme.  The color on the left is Natasha #CY255 and the color on the right is Vanessa #CY256.

So far I have tried the color Vanessa and I like how the color looks it’s very pretty.  But there are problems:
  1. Does not last long
  2. No matter how much I put on chapstick before applying the lip crayon my lips end up dry
  3. My lips were chap and crack the next day I could peel the skin off.
  4. Transfer
If you have dry lips like I do, you might want to exfoliate the day before and apply chapstick to help give you nice soft lips for a smooth look.

I tried Oops My Lip Tint over the weekend and notice that if you are going to be wiping your mouth a lot the tint will come off easily and leave one funky outline and random spots of color.  Definitely need to exfoliate before this product as well.

Don’t be shocked by how dark the color looks coming out of the tube, it is lighter after the peel comes off.  One problem I had with the tubes is that sometimes there would be random air bubbles stuck in it pushing out way more product than I need.  I would have to keep trying to tap the air bubble out.

I’ve heard a lot about these lip tints tasting awful, but I’ve been lucky so far not getting any in my mouth.  I tried bubble pink first and WOW it smells so bad! It smells like Elmer's liquid glue but stronger.  Second worst smell is pure pink, smells almost like bubble pink but not as strong. The other colors had more of a floral perfume sweet smell with lovely peaches being a little bit citrusy.

The result is; I do like the colors of these lip shades I would not buy these again just because it does transfer and is not long lasting.  Although the lip tint will last quite a while as long as you’re not wiping your lips a lot.
Left: Vanessa; Right Natasha
the colors are in the same order as it comes in the box
Left to Right
I tried using the lip tint cleanser to see if I could take off any of the colors.  I tried twice to wash it off, the top left and right pictures are the first attempts and the bottom left and the right pictures are the second attempt. I stopped after two times because my arm was starting to hurt where the little rough beads in the gel were scratching. 3 out of 6 colors came off using the cleanser.

Before; Virgin Red

After; my favorite color so far
